MICHAEL D. XAVIER

DIRECTOR & PRINCIPAL

Michael Xavier (the MX of MX Masterclass) is one of Britain’s most prolific and respected leading men of Musical Theatre. He has been a professional actor for over 25 years gracing both the West End and Broadway stages! Nominated for two Laurence Olivier Awards (for Into The Woods and Love Story) and winner of both a Broadway World Award (for Sunset Boulevard) and BBC Online Drama Award (for Rock), Michael has over 25 years of professional acting experience spanning the media of theatre, film, television and radio. He has worked opposite stars such as Glenn Close (Sunset Boulevard), Joely Richardson (The Wars Of The Roses), Sam Heughan (Outlander), Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack) and many more. Having had no support in performance training from a young age, Michael’s subsequent experience in the world of Musical Theatre and screen acting gave him the incentive to set up a school designed to be taught by current industry professionals who know what the business is looking for. It also means he has access to a wealth of guest teachers that grace our doors every term at MXM, either on the Musical Theatre course or the two different Acting courses.

Michael says: “I set up MX Masterclass in 2016, after running West End Masterclass successfully for five years before that. I wanted to offer more young people access to west-end quality training as I never had that opportunity when I was young. Mentoring the future stars of musical theatre is a truly rewarding experience and every term I’m amazed and excited by the standard and potential of the MXM students.”

The MXM Culture

LOVE, RESPECT & POSITIVITY

These are the three words that best describe the ethos of MXM and the way our teachers and students conduct themselves.

LOVE – We take care of each other. We celebrate our successes and support our ‘failures’ – although Michael doesn’t believe there is such a thing as failure in performance.

RESPECT – We respect each other. Both the teachers and the students share an equal respect. There is no pecking order – we are all there to learn from the best and the teachers value how much they also learn from our students. Teachers act as mentors to guide students gently in their training. There’s no shouting in our studios!

POSITIVITY – We remain as positive as we can in our training, taking the lessons learned from each week no matter how big or small. The glass is always half full at MXM!
